The Local’s Edge: A Summer Guide to Jackson Hole

We realize the struggle of travelling to an unknown destination and not knowing the “honey holes”. The Local’s Edge Series is here to let you know the inside scoop on our favorite ski towns.  Here’s to you never travelling like a baby deer again.

In this installment of the Local’s Edge, we wanted to highlight the ultimate Summer ski town destination: Jackson, WY.  While we all know that Jackson Hole is a premier ski haven, most of their tourism actually comes in the Summer. This should come at no surprise once you catch a glimpse of the Tetons.  Dramatic mountain views complimented with pristine alpine lakes within two national parks a stone’s throw away provide unlimited adventures to indulge in! There’s nothing more iconic than the Tetons and to pair that with the stellar food and beer scene is too good to be true.  Take our word for it – get out to Wyoming and enjoy!

ACTIVITIES AND ADVENTURES

BEST HIKE: DELTA LAKE

One of the most majestic hikes I have ever done is in Grand Teton National Park.  Enjoy stunning views of the Tetons at Delta Lake. This is a 7 mile roundtrip hike that is moderately strenuous but is worth the trip!  Be bold and take a dip in the freezing glacier water, I dare you.

BEST CAMPING: JACKSON LAKE

Grand Teton National Park provides numerous breath-taking camping sites that you can reserve online.  There’s nothing better that waking up and staring at the “Teets”.  Bring your buds, bear spray and brews!

BEST CLIFF JUMP: PHELPS LAKE

For all you adrenaline junkies – Phelps Lake has a small, accessible cliff jumping rock with a killer backdrop!  Follow the Death Canyon Trailhead, enjoy the wildflowers and take a plunge off the 25′ rock!

BEST FLOAT: THE SNAKE

Wrangle the Snake!  Cool down and take a 8-mile float trip down the Snake River.  The class III rapids, including the Lunch Counter and the Big Kahuna, will be sure to get your blood pumping!

BEST MOUNTAIN BIKING: CACHE CREEK TRAILS

Go out for a rip on the Cache Creek Trails located on the North side of Snow King Mountain!  Take the Putt Putt Trail up and cruise down the Game Creek Trail.

MOST SCENIC ACTIVITY: CANOE THE LAKES IN GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK

Grand Teton National Park offers some of the most beautiful alpine lakes in North America.  Take advantage and go out for a paddle!  Jenny Lake and Jackson Lake are great spots for canoeing, kayaking and SUP.

BEST FREE RIDE: BRIDGER GONDOLA

Jackson Hole offers free evening gondola rides in the Summer!  Take a ride up and enjoy a beer and some food at the summit.

THE EATS AND SPIRITS

BEST COFFEE: COWBOY COFFEE

Head to the town square for the best coffee in town, Cowboy Coffee!  Fuel up for a day of activities with a coffee and my personal favorite, the Granger.

BEST BAKERY: PERSEPHONE’S BAKERY

Are you a sucker for croissants?  You picked the right ski town!  I can honestly say that I’ve never had a better croissant than at Persephone’s.  Get one of their breakfast sandwiches and let it melt in your mouth!

BEST SANDWICHES: CREEKSIDE MARKET

Heading out the the park for some adventures?  Better stop for a sandwich (and a Sloshie) at Creekside Market first!

BEST DRINK: THE SLOSHIE

Here’s to the Sloshie: The Unofficial Drink of Jackson.  Every local liquor store carries their own handmade variety of this frozen drink.  The perfect cocktail for any activity!  Take it to-go on the river, lake or a hike.  You will be glad you did.

BEST DIVE: THE BIRD

The Bird is a local’s favorite where you can enjoy great beer, views and grub!  This dive is located a bit outside town but offers a FREE shuttle service to locals…perfect for when you’ve taken advantage of their endless brunch mimosas!

BEST BREWERY: MELVIN

Melvin Brewery has made a name for itself around the beer world with it’s lineup of stellar IPA’s.  Now it’s your time to check them out first hand!  They have two tasting rooms in the Jackson area to enjoy.  Their main brewery is in Alpine a bit South of town and in town they have a thai restaurant collaboration called Thai Me Up!

BEST BAR: LOCAL

Jackson isn’t known for it’s bar scene compared to some other ski towns but there are still some great watering holes to visit!  Head out to Local in the town square for a burger and a late-night scene.

BEST LIVE MUSIC: THE ROSE/PINK GARTER

Indulge in some craft cocktails at The Rose and head upstairs to the Garter for live music.  They book a wide variety of big name bands and artists who will undoubtedly get your booty shaking!
