It should come as no surprise that most of your favorite ski towns transition into mountain biking meccas in the Summer. Not only were they built around some of the best mountain ranges in the country but they already have the infrastructure to support lift accessed downhill trails. Furthermore, adrenaline-seeking skiers who have migrated to the areas need a warm weather fix and have helped to hand-craft trail systems around their local hills. We’ve laid out some our favorite mountain biking towns and bucket-list trails for you to visit this Summer. Get out there and find that brown pow!
CRESTED BUTTE, CO

Crested Butte is known for having some of the most stunning bike-accessed views in the country! Not only does it have more than 700 miles of single track trails but it is home to the World’s oldest mountain biking festival, Crested Butte Bike Week. This Colorado ski town has a handful of bucket-list rides but is most famous for the “401”. This singletrack brings you above the tree line with great views of the East River Valley. Cruise down the 1500’ descent through aspens and wildflowers!
PARK CITY, UT

Park City is a world-renowned premier mountain biking destination with more than 450 miles of trails! The International Mountain Biking Association named Park City the world’s first Gold Level Ride Center. Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley Resort provide some of the best downhill trails , cross-country single tracks and terrain park options in the country. The Mid-Mountain Trail runs from Deer Valley all the way to Summit Park at an elevation of 8,000 feet. Enjoy the spectacular views, aspens and intersecting trail options!
SUN VALLEY, ID

Sun Valley has somehow remained under-the-radar in the biking world despite having over 400 miles of flowy, smooth singletracks complimented by beautiful scenery and a poppin’ town. Enjoy lift-accessed mountain biking on Bald Mountain with over 3,400 feet of vertical drop to the valley floor! From the Sun Valley gondola take the Warm Springs Trail which descends 2500 feet over nine miles.
EAST BURKE, VT

East Burke is the only ski town on this list that is better known for it’s mountain biking than skiing. This small town in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom is widely recognized as the best biking on the East Coast. Burke is the home of the Kingdom Trails, a network of more than 120 miles of trails that feature steep routes with great climbs along with smooth, wide single-track paths for beginners.
LAKE TAHOE, CA

The towns surrounding Lake Tahoe feature some of the best mountain biking trails in the West! Many of the trails provide stunning views of the lake including the Tahoe Flume Trail. The Flume is a famous 13.5 mile trip that starts in Incline Village. For those of you looking for challenge – try the Tahoe Rim Trail which runs all the way around the lake! This 165 mile loop is a bucket list trail that features parts of the Pacific Rim trail.
PC: JACKSON HOLE MOUNTAIN RESORT
Along with every other outdoor activity, mountain biking is abundant in Jackson, Wyoming. The Jackson Hole Bike Park is home to the Lucky Charm trail that features a wooden bridge that is 400 feet long! Want to get some vert? Head over to Teton Pass where you can enjoy hundreds of miles of trails. The Pass Ridge Trail is a stunner with views of the Snake River, Jackson Hole and the Gros Venture Range!
