SNOCRU Winter Gear Essentials

Winter is in full swing and by now, you should know what you need to replace in your kit!  Are your gloves worn out? Is it time to retire those old boots before you get frostbite?  Is this finally the year where you give in and get yourself a pair of footbeds?  If you answered yes to any of these questions, read on and check out our favorite gear of the season!

Finally a mitten that is stylish and warm!  Flylow has perfected the market of durable gloves and mittens.  Made with their premium leather and waterproofing Sno-Seal, the Unicorn Mitt will have your back on the coldest and wettest days of the year.

Forsake is one of our favorite new companies in the outdoor industry.  These shoes are made for any condition and are built to last!  The Women’s Duck is no exception.  Wear these kicks in the Winter and thru the Summer.  They are made for peak to pavement activities – so don’t worry about having to pack two pairs.  Perfect for wearing to the mountain before a killer day on the slopes!

The Driggs Boot is the perfect combination of comfort functionality and style.  The Driggs are equipped with plenty of tread support for the most technical of trails but they remain low profile enough to wear everyday.  To the naked eye these wouldn’t appear to be very waterproof but after a hike through muddy snow/ice covered trails my feet where still dry and warm.  I would definitely recommend these for urban or mountain wear.

Dakine’s Mission 25L Pack is the perfect piece of gear for any adventure on and off the snow!  This backpack is designed to hold your backcountry gear out on the hill equipped with a fleece-lined goggle pocket, stowable waist-belt and vertical carry straps for your skis or boards.  Not skiing? Take this pack to the office and enjoy a padded laptop sleeve and organized pockets!

Keeping your hands happy on the slopes can make or break your ski day.  That’s why you should get yourself some Hestra’s.  You can’t go wrong with the Fall Line.  These gloves are made out of water-repellant soft cowhide and are built with a soft polyester lining which will keep your paws warm all season!  When we first recieved the Abisko Glove, it seemed to be much more low profile then previous Hestra gloves I have had.  At first this had us concerned that these would not have the same warmth we know and love from Hestra.  Completely wrong!  The terry lining keeps you warm and still allows you to have great mobility and use of your fingers. A soft leather feel and great aesthetic tie this glove together perfectly

If you aren’t rocking a pair of the Trew Gear Chariot Bibs, you’re doing it wrong.  These pants are durable and functional for not just powder days but everyday on the mountain!  Added pockets in the chest and on the pants make it easy to take everything you will need with you.  These bibs are also equipped with dual-sided vents that keep it breathable while you are working up a sweat!

I feel like I have to start this review by saying “ I do not work for or get paid by Armada in any way”.  This is the best piece of ski clothing I’ve ever worn!  The Rotor Hoodie is extremely warm unbelievably lightweight and has PERFECT fit.  Slim and long so it can be tucked into your snow pants without limiting movement or adding bulk.  The integrated balaclava is amazing as well fit perfect on any head size and provides warmth and seamless coverage of you upper body.

Rhone Apparel is fairly new to the scene and making a name for themselves fast!  Answering the call of men everywhere who want to dress comfortable and not look, lets say…“homeless”.  Women have leggings and now men have Rhone.  I was able to test out the Torrent Pant and the Sequoia Air ¼ Zip.  Honestly never wanted to take them off.  You could easily sleep, travel and show up to a meeting wearing the Torrent pant and no one would know.  Both these pieces great for the golf course, under ski gear or practically any activity or leisure you can think of.

Footbeds are by far the most overlooked piece of snow gear on the market.  Anyone who has ever put on a pair of ski or snowboard boots undoubtedly knows how uncomfortable they can be.  Custom footbeds will change your life!  Custom footbeds secure your foot within the boot ensuring all your energy is transferred right into your skis or board and stop the dreaded boot bang you get from movement inside your boot.  Custom insoles can last you up to 10 years so it’s well worth the investment.  There’s a lot of bad boot fitters out there so make sure you go to a reputable place before you drop some coin. Pret Helmet skiing

The Cynic X is the low profile, high impact helmet that any style of skier is dreaming of!  Years of oversized, overweight, and plain old ugly helmets turned a lot of people off the idea of head protection.  The Cynic X destroys helmet stereotypes and then some. This is the lightest, most stylish helmet on the market and with its MIPS technology it will protect you from scrambling your egg without loosing any style points in the lift line!
