Not sure what Gaper Day is? It’s ok, we are here to help…
WHEN: April 1st
WHERE: Ski Town, USA
WHAT: A day of shenanigans.
WHY: Why not?
On April 1st, ski town locals across North America get out of their Gore-Tex and hop into their finest costume for the unofficial holiday of Gaper Day (also known as Clown Day). This holiday has been around for decades, meant to celebrate the start of Spring and poke fun at the Jerry’s and Jerralina’s that we’ve endured throughout the Winter. Basically, it’s just an excuse to dress up and ski at Party Mountain. Don’t be alarmed by the debauchery that occurs. Join in, put on some jorts and embrace the springtime celebration!
WHAT TO WEAR:
The possibilities are literally endless. Get out of your comfort zone and build the ultimate costume. Here are some ideas to get the ball rolling!
THE CLASSIC GAPER
For those of you who want to embrace the true essence of the holiday.
APRIL 1ST IS ALSO EASTER SUNDAY…
Easter bunny, carrot, chick, egg…Jesus?! Be festive.
YOU CAN’T GO WRONG WITH DENIM.
Canadian tuxedos anyone?
OLDIES BUT GOODIES.
Don’t leave the East Coast without raiding your Moms closet.
THE YELLOW JACKET
Demand respect and authority.
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE ACCESSORIES.
Let’s be real – accessories can make or break your outfit. Take your get-up to the next level this Gaper Day.
Don’t be shy with it.
Gaper Day is no secret to the resorts or the ski town authorities. So don’t be surprised if your bags get checked on the lifts. Don’t give the yellow jackets any satisfaction of stealing your brewskis. Go up the day before and stash your six-pack. Plus, do some research and find out where the hidden party is being held.
DON’T BE TOO CLOWNISH.
Now don’t get me wrong – Gaper Day is all about shenanigans. But don’t be too reckless, keep it under control and be aware. Skiing is dangerous especially when intoxicated. Have a few beers and know when to take the party off the mountain to the bar!
